Imeko-Afon LG Chair Clears The Air Over Owode Transformer

The Chairman Transition Committee of Imeko-Afon Local Government has explained why one of the Transformers at Owode-Idi Ayin Ward is not installed till now since it's purchase in 2012.

Chief Olusola Oke made the clarification known at an interactive session organized by All Progressive Congress, Zone 2 Youth Forum which comprises of four wards namely; Afon, Agborogbomo, Atapele & Owode/Obada.

The Chairman responded to the question of one Mr. Adeola from Owode-Idi Ayin who sought to find out why the Transformer around Ma Salam Filling Station at Owode is yet to be energized since it's purchase in 2012 following rumours that it was the Chairman that was awarded the contract by the then Local Government administration of Hon. Jide Ogunesan (Late).

According to the LG boss, "truly, the contract of purchase and installation was awarded to me in 2012 by the then LG Chairman sequel to an instruction by the former State Governor, and advance payment was released. I used the part payment to purchase the transformer and accessories needed to install the transformer. Unfortunately due to politics of different interest that ensued then, the balance to complete the project was withheld. There were insinuations that, if I was paid, I would have financial resources to contest against the incumbent Chairman during the Local Government elections. I wrote to the successive governments requesting the balance so I can complete the project for the benefit of the people. The transitional government of Amoko invited me and inquired about the state of the project. When presented with figure that will be needed to complete the project, they claimed it is not what they can attend to at the moment. It is important for you to note that I never abandoned the electrification project, it was left uncompleted because our client, the Government then didn't fulfill their part of the contract terms" Oke explained.

Oke however assured the youth that if his current administration is well funded, about nine transformers across the LG that requires installation will be fixed to the glory of God and to the delight of the people.

He noted that he served with the defunct NEPA for 20 years and his area of expertise is Rural & Urban Electrification and it is his wish that his people enjoyed constant power supply during his era as the LG Chairman.

He further reiterated that Owode Town belongs to his Grandma's family - The Kuolas and that his father, Late Chief Ezekiel Alamu Oke was responsible for the establishment of Owode Market in 1973. The old man died the same day the market was to be commissioned by the then District Officer of Ilaro District. Therefore he can't afford not to be committed to the growth and development of the developing town. He encourages the youth in attendance to dispel the rumour making rounds that he abandoned a project he was paid for.

The Chairman reminded the forum that when he was not yet in office, he single handedly fixed the damaged transformer in Afon, his Home Town in 2008. The town had been in total blackout for more than 12 months. All effort to get Government and public office holders in the town to fix it proved abortive. He had to take up the responsibility of restoring power back to the town after notifying the King of the town.

While responding on behalf of the APC Zone 2 Youth Forum, the Coordinator, Mr. Lamidi Ganiyu extolled the virtues of the Chairman. He commended his humility and praised his style of administration. Lamidi said this is the first time they will see a sitting Chairman of a Local Government who is always willing to interact with the populace regardless of their status. He charged the Chairman to continue to impress the good people of Imeko-Afon Local Government.

Some other attendees at the meeting demanded for developmental projects in their various wards too. The Chairman promised to be fair and equitable in the distribution of projects across the Local Government in line with availability of funds.

Alumni of Royal Institute of Health Debunk NAOSS Allegation of Opening the School Against Government's Directive

With respect to the purported press release by Comrade Gbemileke Ogunronmbi of NAOSS, in Abeokuta dated 10 June, 2020 flying around on social media with reference to uhurutimes.com who allegedly claimed the school reopened for academic activities against the orders of the State and Federal Governments with respect to this current global COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Alumni Association of this great citadel of learning hereby decide to put the record straight to clear the airways as regards the allegations against the school authority and the personality of the proprietor.

The above Association hereby submit its position as a true refelection of our stance on this allegations.

The entire ALUMNI of the institution hereby write to address the damage that has been done to the reputable image of the college. It is very important to note that the Royal institute of health technology, Ifo is a private owned Institution with no alliance with National Association of ogun State Students(NAOSS)

For record purpose the school mobilizes for internship, students whose course of study is related to the ongoing situation in the country as a way of assisting the students to acquire more experience in their field of study which is contrary to the news in circulation about the total opening of our institution.

It is also important to note that before the school embark on such decision, a meeting was summon by the management in which students were also represented and involved in the decision making process with a backup from the government as approval.

The ALUMNI Association hereby use this medium to notify NAOSS (National Association of Ogun State Students) to desist from constituting any act that can breach the peace we enjoy in our Noble Institute, as any act of protest will not be welcome by our students and Graduates of the great citadel of learning as long as we stand by the collective decision of the college.

Also, as an institute of health, we are most aware about the dangers of COVID-19 and our students shall also contribute our own quota in the fight against this pandemic.

If a medical student is denied the covid-19 treatment experience, why then is such student in such field?
The ALUMNI Association hereby call on security agencies in the state to stop any group of individuals from coming to disturb the premises of the institution as the union will not hesitate to stand against this group in all they stand for.

In addition, the said NAOSS pressurized the proprietor of  ROYAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY, IFO with the aim of visiting and honoring him with award which he declined because he refused to relate with a body who doesn't want to associate with his students.

The Students Union Government has call on NAOSS several times in other to benefit and be regarded as one of her members but NAOSS declined claiming Royal Institute of Health Technology, Ifo is a private institution. Then, It is a miracle that NAOSS is suddenly concerned about the welfarism of the students of a private institution.

In conclusion, we strongly believe this act is solely defarmation of name/character and most probably a way of extortion by Naoss. on behalf of the Entire Students and Management of Royal Institute of Health Technology, Ifo ogun state, we hereby use this medium to sound a note of warning to Naoss president, Ogunrombi Gbemileke as he can be charged on both civil and criminal case for this huge false information thrown into the air to black mail our Noble institution.

Till now Royal Institute of Health Technology, Ifo remain closed and abide with both Federal Republic of Nigeria and the State order

Hoodlums Take Over Streets in Ota Amidst Lockdown

Reports coming in has it that hoodlums are having a free day in the suburbs of Ota. Young men are being seen invading houses with weapons like cutlass and locally made guns and dispossessing residents of their valuables.

As at 2pm yesterday Thursday, our correspondent received a call that Owode/Ijako axis is under a siege. By evening of the same day, same incidence was reported happening around Adalemo axis of Sango Ota. By night, the people of Iloye/Gasline/Olaotan could not sleep as this invasion becomes intense in their locality.

According to eye witness, the hoodlums are between 10 to 15 in number, making it difficult for a single or two security men to combat them. As at the time of filling in this report, men of the Nigerian Police are seen patrolling the affected areas.

It is believed that the actions of these young men is as a result of their inability to go to work because of the lockdown in the State. Many youths have shown displeasure towards Government's choice of beneficiaries for the Stimulus Package.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun had said the Stimulus Package is meant for the poor and the vulnerable. However this didn't go down well with young and agile residents who make up the highest percentages of the population and are directly hit by the COVID-19 Lockdown. "Is it only the widows and aged that are hungry" "The youths need food too" said by some of the angry youths.

Aina Praises Governor Abiodun Over Stimulus Package

A Chieftain of APC in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government and Chairmanship Aspirant has commended the Governor of Ogun State for providing Stimulus Package for the downtrodden. Prince Kazeem Aina while delivering stimulus package on behalf of the Local Government Chairman to four different communities in Ijoko Ota praised Prince Dapo Abiodun for providing succour to the less privileged during this lockdown.

Aina who was saddled with the responsibility of leading delegates to share the packs by the Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Lawal made it crystal clear to the Community Leaders that the sharing formula adopted by them when the exercise started contravened the directives of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun. "To say that one pack of the Stimulus Package is for a whole community is wrong. You are expected to identify anyone that falls into the category of people that deserves it and hand over the pack to them" he stressed.

Prince Aina received 120 packs of the Stimulus Package and ensured he gave it to each and deserving beneficiaries across Ntabo/Agoro/Afimo/Alade axis of Ijoko Ota.

The beneficiaries showered accolades on the State Government for remembering them during this trying times. Some of the beneficiaries include a 90 year old woman who could barely walk again and an 86 year old retired public servant.

Some youths who protested neglect of their class by Government were pacified by Prince Kazeem who later gave them some cash to buy food stuffs to eat.
