COVID-19: Imeko-Afon LG Boss Enforces Lockdown, Tightens Border

In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Ogun State, Chief Olusola Oke, the Chairman Transition Committee of Imeko-Afon Local Government on Sunday 26th April led a joint security task force to enforce lockdown in the local government.

The Chairman was accompanied by the Secretary to the Local Government, DPO of Imeko Division, the OC of Customs, Immigration, DSS and Commandant of NSCDC in the Local Government. The team patrolled the length and breadth of the Local Government, arrested some violators of the SIT-AT-HOME order of the Government and also accosted some illegal migrants.

Imeko-Afon on Wednesday 22nd of April recorded 3 confirmed cases of COVID-19. As a border Local Government to other African Countries, the need to tighten the borders and guide against illegal immigration becomes imperative.

According to the LG Chairman, "there are so many point of entries into the Local Government from Benin Republic making it difficult for us to monitor and control the influx of illegal immigrants into the country. You would recall that the 3 cases of COVID-19 we recorded last week are not residents of the Local Government, they are travelers who are coming from Togo and chose to enter Nigeria through Ilara, a border town. In order to forestall a reoccurrence, we had to collaborate with all the security agencies to ensure all entry points are well manned" Oke said.

In the course of the patrol, cars were impounded and delayed for some hours, some smugglers were equally arrested while some illegal immigrants were also apprehended.
